FAQ’s

Q:        Am I hypnotizable?

A:        Yes.  Everyone goes in and out of the alpha wave brain state daily.  We hypnotize ourselves often without realizing that hypnosis is simply an inner state of awareness.  If you’ve ever daydreamed, become really engrossed in a movie or book, or spent time in inner contemplation or prayer, you’ve been hypnotized. Hypnosis is a natural state that can be experienced by anyone. I use both the western and eastern methods of inducing hypnosis and teach my clients how they can continue to use these methods on their own to feel better and have more of what they want in their lives.

Q:        Can you hypnotize me if I don’t want to be hypnotized?

A:        No.  I (or anyone else) cannot hypnotize someone against their conscious will.  When I guide someone into the state known as hypnosis, they must be willing to say yes to the suggestions of relaxation and inner focus that I offer.  If a person resists, then they will not go into hypnosis. Some people resist experiencing hypnosis because they think it is something that it is not. In this case, it may be useful to learn more about what hypnosis truly is and is not. One way to do this is through setting up a complimentary initial consultation. Benjamin Malley offers a free 20 minute introductory consultation.

Q:        Will I lose control while in hypnosis?

A:        No. Your free will always remains intact as does your moral code.

Q:        What does it feel like to be hypnotized?

A:        Each person’s experience of hypnosis is individual and varies in different ways. Some people experience an acute awareness of what is going on around them while others drift in and out of intense focusing and peaceful relaxation.  Some people feel a floating sensation while others experience a sinking feeling.  The sensations can change for the same person practicing hypnosis at different times and people can even alternate through different experiences during the same session.

Q:        Are you a certified in hypnotherapy?

A:        Yes.  I am Board Certified in Hypnotherapy by the American Council of Hypnotist Examiners. My initial training was comprised of 650 classroom hours and an equal number of practicum hours. My further studies exceed the board’s yearly requirements for continuing education and training. I hold additional certifications in Clinical and Medical Support Hypnosis as well as in several areas of Regression therapy, and NeuroLinguistic Programming.

Q:        What kind of techniques do you use when you work with a client?

A:        I use various techniques with clients including and not limited to direct hypnosis, indirect hypnosis, body and mind focusing processes, therapeutic suggestions and imagery, parts integration, regressions, and neurolinguistic programming.  I tailor my style to the needs of my client so each client has a different experience with me.

Q:        How many sessions do I need to have to reach a goal or resolve an issue?

A:        Most clients gain all of the tools they need to use to reach their goal or resolve their issue within one to six sessions.

Q:        So how can I ensure my success with hypnotherapy?

A:        Hypnotherapy, hypnosis, and the processes that are run during sessions are simply tools to uncover limiting beliefs and reverse them.  The therapy does not stop when a client finishes a session.  In fact, I tell all of my clients that the people who have the greatest success with me are the ones who do their ‘homework’.

Q:        Homework doesn’t sound like much fun.  What is that all about?

A:        During our sessions, your powerful subconscious and superconscious mind will reveal what you need to do to reach your goal.  Once that understanding is achieved, I assign homework to the client based on what is uncovered.  This kind of homework is fun and feels good.  It could be anything from journaling about your session, to repeating positive thoughts and beneficial ideas, to using your imagination to visualize a future time in your life, to noticing your breakthroughs, or listening to a CD, or a host of other things.  Those that do their homework experience the benefits of their work, those who do not, rarely make lasting breakthroughs. —Motivation, holding an image of success, and repetition are 3 keys.

Q:        What do the sessions cost?

A:        Basic individual sessions are $95. To save money, you may purchase a package of three sessions paid in advance for $250.

Q:        What if I pay for three sessions in advance and reach my goal sooner?

A:        If you prepay and reach your goal in fewer than three sessions you can use the remaining session/sessions to work on a new goal, or receive a refund for the unused sessions.

Q:        Do you take insurance?

A:        No, I do not take insurance.  Some insurance companies do reimburse their clients for hypnotherapy.  Please check with your insurance provider.  If this is the case, I will be happy to supply you with a receipt that you can then file with your insurance company.
